How to Install

Overview

  1. The Aero Spur is a clamshell design that snaps over the rear derailleur cage, and is made of an inner shell facing the wheel and an outer shell facing away from the bike.
  2. The half shells are clipped together by an overlapping latch and catch mechanism at the front combined with a snap fit clip at the rear. This is similar to standard road pedals, but without the twist to release.
  3. The front lip and catch have a locating boss in the lip and corresponding notch in the catch for alignment.
  4. The interior faces of the clamshells (without text) have locating pins that fit into the heads or hollows of the pulley wheel bolts, it is essential to get these into the correct location.
  5. Near the bottom inner face of each side of the clamshell there are additional snap fit clips that clasp onto the bottom edge of the derailleur cage.
  6. While the AS is fairly durable it is made of layers so be carful while installing not to break it.
  7. Clip and unclip the snap fit at the rear to get a sense of how it works.
  8. To unclip, unfasten the rear snap fit clip.
  9. Do this by sliding the inner front lip into the outer front catch and then closing them together with the rear clip. The front has an alignment notch so make sure inner and outer sides are aligned, it should not need to be forced.


Installation

  1. Check to make sure you have at least a 40 tooth chainring and the correct chain length (per SRAM app).
  2. Put the bike in a bike stand or upside down, even if you have a bike stand it may be easier to install with the bike upside down on the ground since it is easier to see the derailleur cage.
  3. We recommend to put electric tape on the on outer face of the derailleur cage to prevent rubbing.
  4. Put the derailleur in 3rd gear (from easiest).
  5. Place the outer shell (the side that says “Aero Spur®”) onto the derailleur cage.
  6. Align the locating pins on the inside face with the pulley wheel bolt head allen (hex) key recesses.
  7. Clip the bottom clip onto derailleur cage, this may take a little squeeze from the side.
  8. While holding the outer shell in place, take the inner shell and insert its front lip into the outer shells front catch.
  9. Again, make sure the alignment pins of the inner shell (if it has them) align with the pulley wheel bolt heads.
  10. Now bring the rear of the two shells together to clip the rear snap fit clip.
  11. Squeeze the bottom to make sure the bottom of each of the shells is clipped to the derailleur cage.
  12. Shift through gears to ensure there is no interference, for 12s SRAM you may need to adjust the B-Screw to prevent interference with the cassette.
  13. It should be securely mounted with no movement or rattling.
  14. Go ride!
